Funny Car driver DeJoria has learned that patience is key

It takes a lot of patience to win a four-second drag race.

That might not seem to make much sense. But now that Alexis DeJoria has discovered that she had to slow down to ultimately go fast in her Toyota, she has become a Funny Car championship contender as the new NHRA season begins Friday at Fairplex in Pomona.

“This sport demands perfection, and if you don’t have patience, you can’t zero in on what that perfection is,” she said. “It is having a calm, cool and collected manner in being able to execute every move methodically. I had a lot of patience because I knew what the future would hold for us.”
