Its been sort of a test session this weekend. We've been trying some new things during qualifying so we didn't have the best runs, but we are gaining information that will help us in the long term.

We're not starting from high up in the ranks tomorrow, but we're qualified and that's all that matters. My guys always give me something good on Sunday.

Forbes Magazine - Alexis DeJoria could have done anything with her life. The daughter of billionaire John Paul DeJoria, her world was a wide-open canvas. She could have gone into one of the family businesses - Paul Mitchell hair care products or Tequila Patron. Instead DeJoria, 39 and the mother of a 14-year-old daughter, chose drag racing.

She is one of just a handful of women on the NHRA circuit, others being the Force sisters, who routinely compete with, and beat, men at over 300 mph in 10,000 horsepower cars, and do so without a handicap.

Alexis DeJoria competes in NHRA drag racing with her Tequila Parton Funny Car.

Don't let DeJoria's colorful tattoos - she has several of them - fool you. She is incredibly articulate and sweet, but also a fierce competitor. At the 2014 U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, NHRA's crown jewel, she drove her Tequila Patron Toyota Funny Car dragster to the championship, beating legend John Force in the finals. Her time for 1,000 feet of asphalt: 4.038 seconds with a top speed just north of 310 mph. Read Full Story

Race Recap:
Alexis DeJoria returned to the seat of her Tequila Patrón Toyota Camry Funny Car at the New England Nationals. Right off of the trailer, DeJoria ran strong with two solid qualifying passes on Friday including earning a bonus point in the Friday evening session.

DeJoria ended qualifying in the 11th position with a first round opponent of Bob Tasca III. The Patrón Camry encountered problems early in the run. DeJoria expertly pedaled, but was unable to catch up with Tasca III, who was already too far down the race track.

Well race day didn't go as expected, but we gave it a good try. I did my best out there; I pedaled and got it to recover.  I was right there, waiting. If Tasca blipped or anything, I was going to get him, but unfortunately he didn't and that was the end of our day.

I'm happy to be back here. We had some good consistent runs in qualifying. We're going to keep working really hard and try to find that extra horsepower. Englishtown is up next and I'm really looking forward to it.

It's my first race back and it's going really well so far. In qualifying we made three good consistent passes and even got a bonus point out of it. I couldn't be happier with the results right now. Going into Sunday we feel very strong. We're racing another New Englander so that'll be fun. Bob's been running well this weekend too. It's anybody's race, but we feel really good about our chances.

Alexis DeJoria

EPPING, N.H. (June 1, 2017)-- Alexis DeJoria will return to the seat of her Tequila Patrón Toyota Camry at this weekend’s NHRA New England Nationals in Epping, N.H.

“I’m excited to get back to racing,” said the four-time Funny Car winner, who has been tending to a private family matter. “I want to thank everyone for their support these past few weeks. Missing races is never easy and certainly not a decision that was made lightly. I can’t wait to get back at it and resume the fight for our spot in the Top 10 this weekend.”

DeJoria currently sits in the No. 14 spot in the Countdown to the Championship Funny Car rankings, 110 points out of 10th. The New England event marks the unofficial end to the first half of NHRA’s ‘regular’ season and kicks off a grueling stretch of back-to-back races. With eight events scheduled over the next 10 weeks, the summer months will be crucial for DeJoria and her Patrón team in their efforts to secure a spot in the coveted Top 10.

“Right now, the focus is on picking up as many round wins as possible,” said DeJoria.

The 2014 New England Nationals runner-up knows that she and her team have their work cut out for them, but is confident in their abilities to bridge the gap and ensure their fourth consecutive playoff berth later this summer.

“I’ve got a great team, and a car capable of running with the best of them. I have nothing but the utmost confidence in Nicky [Boninfante] and Tommy [DeLago]. We’re going to race hard and just keep charging forward.”

DeJoria and the Kalitta Motorsports Tequila Patrón Toyota Camry Funny Car team begin qualifying for the 5th annual NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway on Friday, June 2 at 5:00 p.m. (ET).
